The Fault In Our Stars Is Ultimate Flick For Love Story Fans

MIAMI (CBSMiami) – The Fault in Our Stars is the story of two bright, funny and quirky teenagers who fall in love and both happen to have cancer.

Shailene Woodley is Hazel Grace Lancaster.

Ansel Elgort plays Augustus Waters, an ex-basketball player and amputee she falls in love with after meeting him at a cancer support group.

It's a love story that is funny, witty and yes sad, very sad.

"I  kind of want to reach out and touch you guys because I cried from my toes," said CBS4's Lisa Petrillo, interviewing Shailene and Ansel.

"It's so emotional, so emotional," said Shailene.

Yes, the film is a real tear jerker, but it's not only sad, it's a celebration of life, love and the importance of quality time spent.

Woodley knew she wanted to play Hazel Grace immediately after she read the book.

"I wanted to play her because I really wanted to bring the story to life with integrity," Shailene said.

"When you love something like I did I had a strong connection with her. I felt I had a sense of who she is and that I could bring authenticity to that."

Petrillo says newcomer Ansel Elgort is the perfect Gus: charming, loveable and adorable.

"He is so charming and incredible and sweet to Hazel," said Ansel.  "It was a daunting character to play because people love him so widely."

The Fault in Our Stars was written by rock star author John Green who had a best seller with the book in 2012. Teenagers went wild.

"Initially, I did not want to sell the rights to the book because I wasn't sure it was possible to make a proper adaptation of the book but the producers promised me they would and they did.  I'm so grateful," said Green.

Nat Wolff plays Isaac, Gus' best friend.

Despite having cancer of the eyes and a girlfriend who broke his heart, Isaac is the comic relief in the film."

"The characters are so vibrant and real that I figured that if we did a good job with our roles, people would love the movie too," said Nat.

The Fault in Our Stars is aimed at teenagers, but grown -ups should not shy away from this film. The message is clear to anyone who sees it.

"Even though this is a sad story, the overall message is that Hazel and Gus have a finite number of days and that's all we can all have," said Ansel.

"Quality over Quantity" said Shailene. "Always."
