President Obama Coming To Miami For DNC Fundraiser
MIAMI (CBSMiami) – South Florida is in for a presidential visit on Wednesday. President Barack Obama is traveling to Miami to attend a fundraising event for the Democratic National Committee.
The President is expected to arrive at Miami International Airport aboard Air Force One at 5:40 p.m., the height of rush-hour, and cause traffic around the airport to become even more congested than usual.
He's scheduled to depart at 10:00 p.m.
According to CBS4 News partner the Miami Herald, Mr. Obama's private fundraising event will take place at the waterfront home of businessman and philanthropist Joseph W. Blount in Miami Beach.
The DNC fundraiser is scheduled to kick off at 7 p.m. General reception tickets are $1,000, those wishing to attend the "Host Clutch and Reception" will pay $20,000. Maximum contribution: $32,400.
Obama's visit to Miami-Dade is the second this year, a stark contrast to 2012 when he made multiple visits to the most-populous county of the most-populous swing state in the nation.
Obama has made 29 visits to Florida since taking office in 2009; 15 times during 2012 and only two so far in 2013, including a four-day golfing weekend, according to CBS News' Mark Knoller, who keeps track of presidential visits.
