NORTHWEST MIAMI-DADE —  Gunfire at 8:50 a.m. as Carmen was taking her kids to school. She said she heard, "Pop, pop, pop..." It was coming from Northwest 92nd Street and 22nd Avenue.

Sue said she heard 16 shots. Another woman heard it, too — forcing her to crawl out of her bed and onto her knees.

"I think about eight (shots)" she said. "It shot — one, two, three — then it stopped and started again."

Miami-Dade Police said a man was killed inside a nearby business when someone walked in and opened fire. Police are still trying to figure out a motive.

"Our victim was inside a business talking to a friend when an unknown subject entered the business, produced a firearm, and without provocation, shot the victim," said Miami-Dade Police Detective Andre Martin.

In minutes, they had a chopper in the air and officers on the ground, blanketing the neighborhood.

"A subject was located a short distance away from where all this occurred and that person is in custody," Martin said. "Our investigators are working to determine the involvement of that person in this case."

Now, investigators are searching the area to see if surveillance or doorbell cameras may provide some answers.

"At this time there is no reason to believe there is a subject at large. We believe that we have the person responsible for this in custody," he said.
