'Young And Restless' To Begin Mourning Process For Character Kay Chancellor

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — "The Young and the Restless" Friday will begin the process of saying goodbye to the beloved character Katherine "Kay" Chancellor.

Jeanne Cooper, the Emmy-winning actress who embodied the character often called Mrs. C., died in May.

She played the iconic role for nearly 40 years.

As the multi-episode tribute begins, CBS says Katherine's loved ones are sent postcards asking them to gather at the Chancellor Estate.

Once gathered together, Kay's family and friends will learn she passed away while vacationing with her husband, Murphy.

"In the coming weeks, Katherine's memory will be honored in several very special ways that allow us to pay tribute to Jeanne in the remarkable manner she deserves," said Y&R Executive Producer Jill Farren Phelps. "It is an extraordinary story that will bring the residents of Genoa City together to remember this woman they all loved."

CBS broadcast a critically-acclaimed tribute to Cooper that aired in May.
