'Young And Restless' Star, 84, Is Reportedly On The Mend

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com)  — Actor Corbin Bernsen says his mother, "Young and Restless" star Jeanne Cooper, is still in the hospital but "recovering and making great progress."

He posted on Facebook Sunday that the legendary daytime star who has played grande dame Katherine Chancellor for almost 40 years, was even well enough to let him take her picture and post it.

She gave a thumbs up in the photo and Bernsen said, "then, without hesitation, she flipped me the bird." That, he joked, was how he knows his mother is on the mend and returning to her true irascible and loveable self. "It's a great sign," he wrote.

Bernsen added that Cooper is "overwhelmed by your [the fans] abundance of thoughts and prayers for her."

He also joked that Cooper asked for her cell phone. "A cell phone in her hands can be a dangerous thing!," he quipped, "Who knows what she'll get up to or who she'll start bossing around directly."

Cooper. 84, was hospitalized last week and remained in the ICU at Cedars-Sinai for several days.

Bernsen said his mother has "very real hurdles for a long range recovery and for returning to a life she knew" but his mother was (his caps) "ABUNDANTLY, ABSOLUTELY, ADAMANTLY CLEAR she wants to go back to work and 'it ain't over until Katherine Chancellor sings!'"

To her fans, Bernsen said, "Enjoy the photo and her stuffed dog she calls Cracker Jack -- after her real dog waiting patiently at home for her."
