Woman Reportedly Beaten, Robbed At Newport Beach Apartment Complex

NEWPORT BEACH (CBSLA.com) — Police said a woman was beaten and robbed at an upscale apartment complex in Newport Beach Monday night.

The incident happened around 10 p.m. at Newport Bluffs at 100 Vilaggio, which is a quarter-mile away from UC Irvine.

Officials told KCAL9's Stacey Butler that the victim was approached by a man while was getting out of her car in a parking garage.

Detectives said the suspect grabbed the woman, pulled her toward the open driver's door and punched her in the face.

He then took the victim's purse and fled.

Residents said they're now on edge.

"It's really scary. I mean, I come home all the time and go up the stairs and it's dark," said Christy Southern.

Police described the assailant as Hispanic and around 5 feet 10 inches tall.

He was wearing black pants, a black hoodie, a black beanie, and white tennis shoes.

Anyone with information about the crime should call the Newport Beach Police Department.
