What You're Eating: Seasonal Fall Menus

Southern California may not celebrate the traditional fall foliage like other areas, but that doesn't mean the menus do not reflect or embrace the autumn season and harvest to the fullest. From root vegetables, traditional holidays, and menus inspired to create awareness, the finest restaurants in LA and Orange County have once again embarked on a very special culinary journey.

Antonello Ristorante has declared October "Black Truffle Month". Portions of the proceeds from items on the special Tartufo Menu will be donated to THE Breast Cancer Foundation, an Orange County non-profit. Selections include: Tagliatelle (Homemade Pasta, White Truffle Butter and Black Summer Truffle,) Carpaccio Di Manzo (Thinly Sliced Beef, Fontina Fonduta, Micro Greens, and Black Summer Truffle,) Risotto (Canoroli Rice, Porcini Mushrooms, and Black Summer Truffle,) and Lombata ai Tartufo (Veal Chop, Light Veal Reduction, and Black Truffle.)

Roy's at Fashion Island is celebrating the change of season with a delectable, prix-fixe menu ($36.95 per person) for guests to enjoy. Feast on flavorful offerings which include: mouthwatering Wagyu Beef Gyoza Sesame Citrus Shoyu for appetizers, the classic entree Macadamia Nut Crusted Mahi Mahi and Braised Beef Short Rib with Lobster Cream and Natural Braising Sauces, and a scrumptiously sweet Vanilla Creameaux dessert with White Chocolate and Lemon Sable Cookies with Blueberry Sauce.

Two new beer and wine flight programs have landed at SideDoor in Corona del Mar to compliment the restaurant's delicious fare. SideDoor's new beer flight invites guests to sample a variety of four-ounce tasters from tap which includes specialty and micro-brews. The "create your own" wine flight allows guests to choose any number of two-ounce tasters from a large selection of hand-picked wines. SideDoor's weekly-changing menu, features small plates, artisanal cheese, charcuterie plates, and house-made desserts making the perfect pairing for either flight.

What is October without a proper Oktoberfest? Bayside in Newport Beach has introduced a three-course prix-fixe menu ($39.95 per person) filled with classic Bavarian cuisine including house made sauerkraut, pretzel bread and Old World mustard. First course choices include Smoked Trout Salad with petit greens or a Weinberg salad, main course selections are Hahnchenbrust (Cordon Bleu,) or traditional Bayrishe Weisswurst (pork sausage,) and for dessert, guests will enjoy Mohr im Hemd (chocolate hazelnut bread pudding.)

Executive chef, and breast cancer survivor, Geeta Bansal, has created a very special three-course prix-fixe menu ($40 per person) in honor of National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. During October, Chef Geeta will donate a portion of the proceeds to benefit the Susan G. Komen Foundation. Dinner will begin with Forbidden rice, roasted tomato and cumin soup, choice of entree to include: Falli Paneer, Chicken Curry, or Kerala Shrimp all served with rice and naan, and a Pink Rose Panna Cotta with coconut milk with rose preserve for dessert.
