Victorville Woman Makes Priceless Find 11 Years After Military Husband's Death

VICTORVILLE (CBSLA.com) — Eleven years after her husband was killed in Iraq, a mother in Victorville has made a priceless find wrapped in the American flag that was given to her by the military.

Biani Mora found her husband Army Specialist Jose Mora's dog tags and wedding ring.

She hadn't seen it since the day he left home.

"He was like, 'Just wait, just wait for me. I'll come home,'" Biani said.

Jose's young children would also be waiting for him.

There's video of him kissing his children behind before he left. The children are much older now and they watch the footage to remember their father.

Damion Mora is 15. He read a letter written to his mother from his father while overseas: "I hope that when these words find you, you are of good health."

Seven months into Jose's tour, he was killed in combat.

The months following his death were a fog for Biani.

"When it really happened to me, I couldn't believe it. Like, it wasn't real. Like, everything was just a dream."

Monday also felt like a dream when she found the ring and dog tags in her husband's flag

"It was a promise that we made to each other, to always love each other and be there for each other," Biani said. "And for him not to be here with me and my kids, that's what hurts, because these are the times that they need him."

Biana says she thought the ring was lost and doesn't know how it ever got tucked away in the flag. But she says it has to be a sign.

"I'm guessing it was like something to let me know he's still here with us, no matter what, he would always be here taking care of the kids."

The couple's oldest child is 17. She said she plans on honoring her dad and joining the military when she turns 18.
