6 Hurt When Vehicle Crashes Into Fountain Valley Tutoring Center
FOUNTAIN VALLEY (CBSLA.com) — Six people, including a 76-year-old driver, were injured Monday when a vehicle plowed through a tutoring center in Fountain Valley.
The incident took place at 12:27 p.m. when a 2011 Buick sedan crashed into the Tutoring Club in the 9900 block of Ellis Avenue.
"We all of a sudden heard a large screeching noise and then just smashing glass and kids and people screaming," said owner David Hill."The car had gone through to the back of the entire storefront, there was rubble and just mess, everywhere."
Six Injured When Car Plows Into Tutoring Center
The Fountain Valley Fire Department responded to the scene and extricated two of the victims, who were trapped underneath the vehicle. Matt Martinez, a 32-year-old tutor suffered traumatic injuries and underwent emergency surgery Monday.
A 67-year-old grandmother who was picking up a grandchild suffered moderate injuries, and two 15-year-old boys suffered minor injuries.
All of the injured were transported to Western Medical Center in Santa Ana.
The driver was identified as Peter Hauk of Huntington Beach.
"It was an older gentleman, he was sitting in the car and he said it was an accident," said Hill. Hauk was also taken to the hospital with minor injuries.
Witnesses said Hauk accelerated once he crashed through the storefront, colliding with the back wall of the center. According to Hill, he emerged from the car and appeared to be in a daze.
Police are investigating the cause of the crash.
