Union Rescue Mission To Host Thanksgiving Meal For 4,000 On Skid Row

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — Volunteers Friday began deep-frying 580 turkeys that will be served Saturday at the Union Rescue Mission.

The mission expects to feed an estimated 4,000 Thanksgiving meals to those in need on Skid Row.

More than 200 people are expected to volunteer at the event, which kicks off at 11 a.m. at 545 South San Pedro St.

In addition to meals, there will be live entertainment, a special fun zone for kids and a dessert bar with a chocolate fountain.

"We hope and pray that this will be another step towards connecting our friends with services and moving closer to the day when not one precious person will be left on the streets of our city," Union Rescue Mission CEO Andy Bales said in a statement.

The 122nd Annual Thanksgiving Celebration is sponsored by Ahmanson Foundation, the Gene Autry Foundation, Network Capital and the Lon V. Smith Foundation.
