UC Riverside Stop Cal Lutheran 72-48

RIVERSIDE (AP)--  Phil Martin scored 22 points and pulled down eight rebounds to lead UC Riverside to a 72-48 victory over Cal Lutheran on Friday night in the season opener for both schools.

The Highlanders took the lead early on 53 percent shooting in the first half. They led 41-26 at halftime.

Martin finished shooting 8 for 18 from the field and made 5 of 8 from the free throw line. Elliott Berry helped the Highlanders with 10 points.

The Kingsmen, a Division III team, shot just 36 percent from the field but made 7 of 21 tries from 3-point range. Jayvaughn Nettles led the Kingsmen with 18 points, including four 3-pointers.
