Trout's 2 Homers Leads Angels Past Astros, 6-3

HOUSTON (AP) — Mike Trout homered twice to become the youngest player in history with 100 home runs and 100 stolen bases, and the Angels beat the Astros, 6-3, on Friday night.

Trout, who has 104 steals, hit a two-run shot off Astros starter Roberto Hernandez on a full count in the sixth inning for his 100th homer, giving the Angels a 3-1 lead. At 23 years and 251 days old, Trout became the youngest player in history to reach the feat — breaking the mark set by Alex Rodriguez (23 years, 309 days old).

After the Astros tied it with single runs in the sixth and seventh, Trout hit a three-run shot against reliever Chad Qualls (0-1) in the eighth.

The homers gave Trout three for the season and his fourth career multihomer game — the first since last Sept. 13 against Houston.

Cesar Ramos (1-0) got the last two outs of the seventh to pick up the win and Huston Street pitched a scoreless ninth for his fourth save.

Kole Calhoun went 2 for 3 with a triple, a walk and three runs scored for Los Angeles in his first start since missing the previous four with tightness in his right calf.

Angels starter Jered Weaver gave up two runs and six hits in six innings.

Roberto Hernandez gave up three runs and three hits while striking out six in six innings for Houston.

Evan Gattis went 2-for-4 with a double for the Astros, who fell to 2-5 at home.

Calhoun tripled to lead off the fourth inning and scored on Matt Joyce's sacrifice fly to put the Angels up 1-0.

Jose Altuve drove in a run in the fifth to tie the score at 1-1, and Jason Castro homered in the bottom of the sixth to keep Houston close after Trout's first homer.

The Astros loaded the bases with no outs in the seventh off relievers Jose Alvarez and Vinnie Pestano, and George Springer tied it at 3-3 with a sacrifice fly.

Angels: RHP Garrett Richards, who is recovering from left knee surgery, threw a bullpen session, and manager Mike Scioscia said he will decide Saturday whether Richards gets another rehab assignment or pitches. "There's no doubt he's close," said Scioscia, who did not commit to a Sunday target date.

Astros: RHP Brad Peacock was placed on the 15-day disabled list retroactive to April 15 with a left intercostal strain. "It's unbelievably frustrating," Peacock said of the injury, which he first felt during Tuesday's start against Oakland. Peacock was coming back from offseason hip surgery. ... Houston recalled RHP Asher Wojciechowski from Triple-A Fresno. Wojciechowski was sent down Monday night after pitching four shutout innings in relief to make room for Peacock on the roster.
