The Fab Mom On 2: Keeping Girls In The Game
According to recent findings from Always brand's ongoing #LikeAGirl campaign, seven of 10 girls don't feel encouraged to play sports due to few role models, lack of interest in and attendance at their games and underfunded programs. Additionally, the Women's Sport Foundation identifies age 14 as a pivotal time when girls' confidence starts to shift downward and affect their interest to stay involved with sports.
How to keep girls in the game?
Start by attending women's and girls' sporting events as a family to drive home the message of how important the skills gained from sports are for the long term.
In a recent study conducted by Ernst & Young, 74 percent of women executives cite participation in youth sports as a major contributing factor to career success. Playing sports teaches teamwork, resilience, the ability to cope (if you lose) and confidence under pressure. Additionally, former athletes tend to earn a 7 percent higher salary than non-athletes later in life.
