Griffith Observatory Reopened After Bomb Scare Forces Evacuation

GRIFFITH PARK (CBSLA) – A suspicious item forced the evacuation of the Griffith Observatory in Griffith Park, a popular attraction for thousands of tourists per day.

According to Los Angeles police, the observatory was evacuated sometime before 2:10 p.m. due to a suspicious item.

Authorities say around 12:40 p.m. they got a call about a suspicious package in the area. When they arrived they found a package on the outside of the building.

An LAPD bomb squad was on scene and after hours of searching the package was deemed safe.

It was the second time the Griffith Observatory had to be evacuated this week. On Tuesday a fire burned 25 acres.
