Suspect In Assault On Fremont Cop Arrested In Los Angeles
FREMONT, Calif. (AP) — Authorities say a parolee wanted on suspicion of ramming a stolen van into a Fremont motorcycle officer has been arrested in Los Angeles.
Alexander Diaz was taken into custody around 5 a.m. Wednesday outside a home that was under surveillance. Fremont police Sgt. Jeff Swadener says a tip led investigators to determine the 36-year-old Diaz took a bus from San Jose to Los Angeles, where he apparently has acquaintances. Diaz was on parole for a grand theft conviction.
Authorities say Diaz stole the van and accelerated into the officer, 43-year-old Patrick Brower, on Monday after Brower spotted the vehicle.
Brower was trapped under the van, which struck a light pole.
He has undergone reconstructive surgery to his leg and foot and is expected to be released from the hospital this week.
