Police Arrest Man Who Allegedly Beat His 71-Year-Old Mother And Prompted Evacuation Of Arcadia Neighborhood

ARCADIA (CBSLA) — Police arrested 31-year-old Michael Jonathan Price after he allegedly beat his 71-year-old mother and prompted the evacuation of an Arcadia neighborhood Thursday after refusing to comply with officers' commands.

Authorities were called to a report of battery at about 9:40 a.m. Thursday in the 400 block of East Camino Real Avenue. The elderly woman had been repeatedly punched on the head and face by her adult son, and was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, Arcadia police officials said.

Price was outside the home when officers arrived, but failed to comply with their commands and went inside the home, according to police. Officers set up a perimeter and evacuated nearby homes as they tried to get the suspect to surrender.

Police said Price eventually exited the residence and was arrested without incident. He was booked into the Arcadia Police Department's jail and charged with violation of elder abuse. His bail has been set at $250,000.

Residents in the area have been allowed to return to their homes and normal traffic on Camino Real Avenue has resumed.
