Man Fatally Stabs Self At Fontana Target Store In Midday Suicide

FONTANA (CBSLA.com) — Police Wednesday investigated a stabbing at a Target store in Fontana.

A man in his 20s  entered the store located at the Falcon Ridge Town Center at 15272 Summit Avenue around 11 a.m., according to Fontana Police.

Investigators say surveillance video revealed the unidentified male walked into the store and headed to the kitchen section.

He proceeded to remove a knife "out of a package" from the housewares section of the store and stabbed himself to death, police said.

When officers arrived, they found the man with an apparent stab wound to the torso.

There were no other victims in the incident, according to police.

The store initially remained open for business immediately following the stabbing.

One shopper told CBSLA it was "disrespectful" to continue shopping while police investigators were on scene.

The store was closed around 1:30 p.m. as coroner's personnel arrived on scene to remove the body.

KCAL9's Adrianna Weingold spoke to some of the shocked customers.

Christopher Calle was shopping when he heard people screaming.

"There were just people screaming oh we need help and we were trying to figure out which aisle, where he was and people were like don't do it don't do it," Calle said.

Marlene Rodriguez was surprised people were allowed to stay inside the store and shop after the suicide.

A portion of the store was roped off during the investigation but customers were still allowed to shop right up until the coroner arrives.

"If something really like that happened why would you open up the store period? Why would you continue to let people come in? Why are you just so like whatever about it? It's kind of disgusting and disturbing at the same time," Rodriguez said.
