Southern California Landmarks Illuminated In Blue In Memory Of Fallen Officers

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — Several landmarks in Southern California were illuminated in blue Monday night in memory of slain law enforcement officers.

Among them were the 100-foot gateway pylons at Los Angeles International Airport, as well as Los Angeles City Hall, and the headquarters of the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power.

"Attacks on law enforcement officers are an assault on our democracy and way of life," said Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti via Twitter.

"We light these landmarks to remind all Angelenos – and people visiting here from all over the world – to reflect on the meaning of service and sacrifice, to support the men and women who risk
their lives to protect our families, and to stand against all senseless violence in our communities," he added.

The tribute comes a day after three officers were fatally shot in ambush-style killings in Baton Rouge, and less than two weeks after five officers were killed in Dallas.
