Soledad Fire Near Santa Clarita Threatening Homes, Evacuations Ordered
SANTA CLARITA (CBSLA) -- A brush fire was burning in the area of Santa Clarita and Agua Dulce on Sunday afternoon near Soledad Canyon Road.
The fire started burning roughly five to seven acres at 4 p.m. As of 4:46 p.m., the fire was 400 acres.
At 6:46 p.m., officials said the fire spread to 800 acres with no containment and has the potential to reach 1,000 acres.
As of 8 p.m., the fire moved to 1,100 acres with no containment percentage immediately available.
Officials said the fire highlights the importance of not using fireworks, which are illegal, around the brush.
An evacuation order was put in place from Agua Dulce Canyon Road to Briggs and Soledad Canyon to 14 Freeway, officials said. No injuries have been reported.
The L.A. County Fire Department said the Red Cross has established a temporary evacuation site at Victory Outreach parking lot, which is located at 37419 25th Street East in Palmdale. Residents must remain in vehicles.
All lanes of the 14 Freeway remained closed for several hours. Just before 11 p.m. on Sunday, Caltrans reported all lanes were open on the southbound 14 Freeway and on the two left lanes on the northbound side. It's unclear when the right two lanes will be opened.
Approximately 400 firefighters were on the scene battling the blaze at last check, and crews are expected to stay throughout the night to get the fire under control.
