LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — Authorities investigated the circumstances surrounding a small plane crash Friday that occurred in the mountainous area west of Lake Hughes.
According to the Palmdale Sheriff's Station, deputies were notified of the crash by a 70-year-old male pilot around 8:15 on Thursday.
The pilot stated he crashed about five miles west of Fox Airfield in Lancaster.
Authorities were sent to Maxwell Canyon Road and Lake Hughes Road to search for the Beech Craft Bonanza.
A Los Angeles County Fire Department airship located the aircraft several miles further west of where the pilot thought he crashed.
The pilot and a 74-year-old male passenger were transported by air to a hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries sustained in the crash.
Federal Aviation Administration officials are expected to assist in the investigation this morning.
