The city of Tarzana has a very interesting history. The area itself was first established by Spanish missionaries in 1797. It was later absorbed into Mexico and then reclaimed in 1848 by the U.S. after the Mexican-American War. In 1919, famed author of the Tarzan novels Edgar Rice Burroughs acquired 550 acres of the land and named it Tarzana Ranch. The city of Tarzana was formed a few decades later. However, the Tarzana most Los Angelenos know today is an affluent neighborhood with some really cool shops. If you've never been, it's definitely worth a SF valley excursion. Here are some shops to check out.
