2 Injured, Suspected Gunman Dead In Shooting Outside Chula Vista Costco Days After Corona Shooting

CHULA VISTA (CBSLA) — A suspected gunman was dead of an apparent self-inflicted wound and two others were injured after a shooting occurred outside of a Costco Wholesale in Chula Vista Monday afternoon.

Police responded to the store located in the 1100 block of Broadway in Chula Vista around 1 p.m. after hearing reports of a shooting.

Witnesses had said that were three people injured in a shooting that followed an argument.

Upon their arrival, officers located three injured adults at the scene - one female and two males, according to Chula Vista Police Lieutenant Dan Peak.

All victims appeared to suffer from gunshot wounds and were transported to UCSD Medical Center, according to Peak.

One of the injured was reported to be the shooter and he was later pronounced dead from self-inflicted injuries.

In an update provided Monday afternoon Peak explained that the suspected shooter and the female victim appeared to have had a previous relationship.

The other man that was shot alongside the female victim was believed to be her current boyfriend.

The man and woman were said to be in surgery following the shooting but their conditions were not immediately known.

According to reports, there was also a small child in a stroller with the man and woman who was said to be theirs.

The child was reported to be unharmed in the shooting.

"The victims were putting their groceries away when the suspect approached from behind and began firing at them," said Peak.

Police tape could be seen blocking off parts of the store's parking lot and an investigation was ongoing as of Monday afternoon.

The reported Chula Vista shooting comes days after a shooting inside a Costco in Corona left one dead and two critically injured.

Witnesses said the gunfire in Corona started when two men got into an argument inside of the store.

It was later revealed that an off-duty LAPD officer shot and killed 32-year-old Kenneth French and critically wounded two of French's family members after reportedly being attacked.

Investigators say the alleged attack against the officer — who was holding his young child at the time — was unprovoked.

French was described by a family member as being "non-verbal" and "never violent."

The Corona investigation is currently ongoing.

The officer was not in custody as investigators looked into what may have prompted the shooting including the possibility of self-defense.

As of Monday afternoon, The LAPD declined to identify the officer, but the department said he had been placed on "administrative duty."
