WWII Military Explosives Dropped Off At Recycling Center
COACHELLA (CBS) — Sheriff's deputies are searching for whoever dropped off three aged military explosives at a Coachella recycling center.
The items, which appeared to be from World War II, were discovered about 9:13 a.m. Saturday.
Sheriff's Sgt. Robert Pickowitz said the explosives were left at the Coachella Valley Recycling Center in the 48100 block of Harrison Street.
The sheriff's Hazardous Device Team was called to the scene and determined that the explosives were still active, he said.
The area was subsequently evacuated and the explosives were detonated, Pickowitz said.
Authorities are looking for the person responsible for dropping the explosives off at the center.
