Several African-American Musicians Honored In LA

LOS ANGELES (CBS) — L.A. Councilmember Bernard Parks honored several African-American musicians Friday as part of Black Musician Month.

The recipients serve as musicians or music directors on TV shows like "American Idol" and "Dancing with the Stars".

"They are the folks who we have idolized in TV, plays and movies and much of our life [we] have grown up with them. And it is so great to see them attain a level of success that we can now be proud of," Parks said.

At Friday's ceremony they shared their journey as African Americans in the music and television world and talked about how they became successful.
