San Bernardino County Sheriff's Sgt. Marc Goodwin Faces Child Pornography Charges

FONTANA (CBSLA) — A San Bernardino County sheriff's sergeant has been arrested on suspicion of possessing and distributing child pornography.

Marc Goodwin, 43, was arrested Thursday by members of Fontana police's Internet Crimes Against Children Unit. The Fontana Police Department said it was alerted by the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children that Goodwin had allegedly electronically transmitted an image containing possible child pornography.

Fontana police officers served a search warrant and seized several electronic devices which the department said would be analyzed for further evidence of child pornography. Investigators allege Goodwin transmitted the images using the email address of

Sheriff John McMahon said in a statement that Goodwin was no longer employed by the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department.

"I find it extremely disappointing when a member of our department acts in a manner that discredits the good work being done daily by our deputies," McMahon said. "The fact that a sergeant has been arrested makes this particularly egregious because they administer supervision of line staff."

Goodwin had been employed with the department since 2005. He was las assigned to the Gangs/Narcotics Division.

Goodwin was being held without bail and is due in court Monday.
