Riverside To Participate In 28th Annual 'National Night Out'

RIVERSIDE (CBS) — The Riverside Police Department announced Friday that the city will participate in the 28th annual National Night Out crime and drug prevention event next week.

"'National Night Out' is designed to heighten crime and drug prevention awareness, generate support for, and participation in, local anti-crime efforts, strengthen neighborhood spirit and send a strong message to criminals, letting them know neighborhoods are organized and fighting back," said Karen Haverkamp, the Riverside Police Department's Community Services Bureau supervisor.

The public is encouraged to participate in events scheduled on Tuesday, August 2, from 6 to 9 p.m. at various locations throughout the city.

"The Riverside Police Department is committed to making `National Night Out' a time for our community to stand together, promote awareness, safety and neighborhood unity," Haverkamp said.

Police personnel will be out in force and will be stopping by the registered events citywide, she said.
