Riverside Falls Short, Fall To Boston College In Overtime

ANAHEIM (AP) — Dennis Clifford scored the go-ahead basket with 3:15 left in overtime, and Boston College held on to beat UC Riverside 66-62 Friday in the consolation bracket of the 76 Classic.

Freshman Patrick Heckmann scored 32 points on 9-of-13 shooting to carry Boston College. He made four 3-pointers and was 10 of 10 from the free-throw line.

Phil Martin finished with 22 points and seven rebounds for UC Riverside (1-4) but had a costly turnover with the Highlanders trailing by a basket late in overtime.

Matt Humphrey had 11 points for the Eagles (2-3), who had lost three straight.

Riverside battled back at the end of regulation, overcoming a six-point deficit in the final minute. Kareem Nitoto hit a 3-pointer, and following a turnover, Harrison Gaines made another 3 to tie the game at 56 with 35.3 seconds left. Gabe Moton's tip-in at the buzzer for Boston College was waved off.
