Riverside County man sentenced to prison for attempted murder after stabbing his mother
A convicted felon was sentenced to 10 years in prison for stabbing and nearly killing his mother in 2022, according to Riverside County prosecutors.
Pascual Herrera Carlos, 53, admitted to the attempted murder count as well as elder abuse and sentence-enhancing allegations of using a deadly weapon during a felony and inflicting great bodily injury on Friday during a status meeting at Riverside County Superior Court.
Despite objection from prosecutors over the term of imprisonment, Judge Jorge Hernandez imposed the ruling anyway.
According to Riverside County Sheriff's Sergeant Anthony Pelato, the sentencing stem from an incident on Sept. 28, 2022.
It was then that deputies were dispatched to a home in the 300 block of S. Kirby Street in San Jacinto after learning that Carlos had gotten into a confrontation with his mother. The encounter escalated into an assault, during which he grabbed a knife and stabbed the victim multiple times, leaving "severe wounds."
When the woman called 911, Carlos fled from the home, Sgt. Pelato said. Arriving paramedics rushed the victim to a nearby hospital which led to her ultimate recovery, he said.
Carlos was arrested in Nov. 2022 when he was located in San Diego County. He was transferred to Riverside County a few days later and has been held since.
