Riverside Brush Fire Burns Several Acres Near Boy Scout Camp

RIVERSIDE ( — A brush fire that broke out Wednesday on a campground in Riverside has burned several acres of vegetation.

The fire was reported at 2:30 p.m. at Mission Inn Avenue and Scout Lane, near a Boy Scout camp adjacent to the Santa Ana River bed.

Riverside Fire Department Division Chief Mitch Wesche told City News Service his crews, aided by personnel from Cal Fire, responded to the scene quickly due to its location in a heavily populated area.

The fire was upgraded to four-alarm status at 2:45 p.m. By approximately 4 p.m., the blaze was 75 percent contained.

"We got resources on it and stopped the forward progress," Wesche said.

"We're watching for hot-spotting, and we're trying to get better containment lines around it."

Fire officials expected to fully contain the fire by Wednesday evening.

No injuries have been reported and no structures were immediately threatened.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
