Back In The Fold: Angels Hire Joe Maddon As New Manager
ANAHEIM (CBSLA) – The Los Angeles Angels Wednesday named the experienced Joe Maddon to be their new manager.
The team confirmed the move on Twitter. Maddon is signing a three-year contract with the Angels, according to MLB.com.
The 65-year-old Maddon was a coach with the Angels from 1994 to 2005.
He then managed the Tampa Bay Rays and the Chicago Cubs.
Maddon managed the Rays from 2006 to 2014, taking the Rays to the World Series in 2008, which they lost to the Philadelphia Phillies. It was their first ever World Series appearance.
He then managed the Cubs from 2015 through this season. In 2016, he lead the Cubs to their first World Series title in 108 years.
Last month, the Angels fired manager Brad Ausmus after going a dismal 72-90, their worst record since 1999.
