Porn Actors Say Proposed Safety Rules Go Too Far

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Critics say a state proposal that would require California porn productions to boost safety standards to prevent the transmission of sexually transmitted diseases goes too far.

The 21-page draft specifies the use of protective eye gear in some situations and calls for producers to pay for medical visits and hepatitis B vaccines for adult film performers, according to the Los Angeles Daily News.

But performers and their supporters said the proposed rules from the state's Division of Occupational Safety and Health would make porn films look like medical dramas.

They say they want a chance to provide input so the regulations won't stigmatize the industry or force producers underground or out of state.

The board will take action on the proposal no later than March 2016.
