Police Investigating Violent Cellphone Robberies At CSUN

NORTHRIDGE (CBSLA.com) — Cal State  Northridge student Manuel Alonzo admits always having his cellphone in hand and in plain view, making him an easy target for thieves.

Tuesday's violent attempted robbery of a woman's cellphone on Lindley Avenue and Lassen Street Street just off campus has Alonzo thinking it's time to pay more attention to his surroundings.

"I'm always looking down at it, not paying attention," Alonzo said.

About 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, a man punched the woman in the face while trying to take her phone, CSUN campus police said. The woman screamed before the man could get away with the phone.

On Sunday, a man's cellphone was snatched right out of his hands on the corner of Zelzah Avenue and Prairie Street.

That same day at the same location, three suspects approached another man and told him they had a gun before stealing his phone and taking off, police said.
