15-Year-Old Carjacking Suspect Leads Police On Wild Pursuit

WILLOWBROOK (CBSLA.com) — When police in Compton spotted a carjacking suspect, the 15-year-old girl did everything but surrender quietly.

It began around 1:25 p.m. Thursday, according to the LAPD.

The driver raced through Magic Johnson Park in Willowbrook, leaving parts of her silver vehicle behind. She sped past squad cars, spun out in the dirt, jumped a curb and even did donuts, while SKY9 followed overhead.

She shot out of the park and across all lanes of traffic, nearly hitting pedestrians as she drove into a parking lot.

Then she moved into oncoming traffic, dodging deputies and racing back into the park.

She circled the park for more than two minutes.

The suspect hopped over the sidewalk and back onto the street, hit the gas and nearly caused a crash.

The chase continued for another minute before the vehicle spun and quit near Rosecrans and Willowbrook.

She surrendered shortly afterward, exiting the vehicle with her hands up and walking backward for officers waiting with their guns drawn.
