'Pass It Forward' With Help From The Emily Shane Foundation
STUDIO CITY (CBS) — Parents can cope with the loss of a child through tragedy by turning it into something positive that can influence change.
Producer Michel Shane and his wife Ellen are keeping the memory of their murdered 13-year-old daughter alive one good deed at a time. The Shane's young daughter, Emily, was tragically killed by a suicidal driver in 2010 on the Pacific Coast Highway in California.
The Shanes stopped by KCAL9 Wednesday to talk about the death of their daughter and how she's become an inspiration.
Emily was selfless and all about helping others. A true rarity amongst teens her age. She was the kind of person who welcomed new kids to the school, asked the child who was sitting alone at the lunch table to join her and always brought a smile to those around her.
To promote Emily's philosophy and keep her values alive, her parents formed a website and foundation.
EMILYSHANE.ORG is a "Pass it Forward" campaign aimed at everyone, particularly the youth of the world, encouraging them to post their good deeds. The Emily Shane Foundation is a nonprofit organization dedicated to helping disadvantaged children attain free tutoring in different academic subject areas.
