Parents Rally To Save LA Charter Schools At Risk Of Closure
LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — Two successful charter schools shut down by the Los Angeles Unified School District now have a fighting chance of surviving.
Parents rallied outside a downtown L.A. courthouse Thursday in support of two campuses run by Magnolia Public Schools.
Inside the courthouse, a judge heard arguments that will determine the fate of the schools, both funded by LAUSD.
District officials said they shut the campuses down because of accounting issues.
Charter school administrators disagree with the district's claim, however.
"We believe that LAUSD did not follow the legal process required when closing down a charter school. We certainly don't agree with the decision at all. And from a legal standpoint, they did not follow the law," Principal Alfredo Rubalcava said.
The judge is expected to make his final decision Friday.
