Officials Say Bicyclist Killed In Deputy-Involved Pursuit Was Unarmed

INGLEWOOD (AP) — Los Angeles County Sheriff's officials say a bicyclist killed in a collision with a deputy's patrol car was not armed as first believed, and the department will conduct an internal review.

A sheriff's statement Thursday night said no weapon was recovered or believed to be in the possession of 45-year-old Alfonso Cerda at the time of the Monday incident in Inglewood.

In a previous statement the department said deputies believed Cerda had a gun as they tried to make contact with him. Deputies say Cerda rode away when he saw them, and the deadly collision occurred when a deputy pulled in front of him in an attempt to stop him.

County watchdog group the Office of Independent Review and Inglewood police traffic investigators are conducting their own probes.
