OC's Best Earth Day 2013 Celebrations

Many people are becoming more environmentally conscious, and Earth Day is a good reminder of just how important nature is. This year, take part in a variety of fun, educational activities at some of the best Earth Day events in Orange County. Learn more about how to plan your Earth Day celebrations below.

If you are looking for a fun way for children to experience Earth Day, then join the Orange County Parks' Upper Newport Bay Nature Preserve for Wild Tales. Tailored for children ages 2 to 8 years old, the Wild Tales event will teach environmental history of the Newport Bay through stories, outdoor activities, crafts and engaging learning exercises. The price for each student is $5. Be sure to register your child soon because available spots are limited.

Adults and children alike are sure to find something of interest at the Southern California Spring Garden Show. There will be kids' activities including shows featuring exotic birds and even a "children's garden." Attendees will get the opportunity to peruse more than 75 exhibitors and see an array of unique plants and gardening supplies. Additionally, renowned landscape architects and gardeners will be showcasing their work. One of nature's most beautiful attractions is the ocean, so it's imperative that it is cared for. This Earth Day, grab your work gloves and reusable trash bags and volunteer at the Huntington Beach clean-up. In an effort to be more environmentally friendly, disposable plastic gloves and trash bags will not be provided. When arriving at the event, be on the look-out for a blue tent; all volunteers will be meeting there at 8 a.m. Parking is free before 10 a.m.

By many people making simple changes, the state of the environment can be significantly impacted for the better. The Earth Day Celebration at the Orange Public Library and History Center will conduct an activity that will help make living "green" even easier. Attendees will be creating reusable tote bags to help eliminate waste. This free event is an enjoyable way for the entire family to take part in Earth Day festivities.

The Fullerton Arboretum Plant and Garden Show has "something for every garden." This two-day show will exhibit several intriguing plants, organic vegetables, pottery and more. Master gardeners and horticulturalists will also be there to answer questions. There will even be a food court and beer garden to accompany the event. Tickets are $8 for the general public and $6 for Arboretum members as well as those with a Titan Card.
