OC High School Baseball Players Devastated After Burglars Steal Team's Equipment
FOUNTAIN VALLEY (CBSLA.com) — A fundraiser has been planned for an Orange County high school baseball team after burglars stole all of their equipment.
Fountain Valley police say burglars broke into the baseball storage shed at Los Amigos High School, 16566 Newhope Street, sometime over the weekend.
The thieves stole all of the team's bats, gloves, balls, catcher's equipment and a small pitching machine, school officials said.
"The glove that was in there wasn't even mine. It was my brother's," said Lobos baseball player Rodolfo Rey.
The equipment, much of it new, is estimated to be worth $3,000 to $4,000.
"These kids have obstacles they have to overcome and this is their safe haven . . . and knowing that someone invaded that is really tough for them," said Varsity coach Art Maltby.
Donations to replace the lost equipment, which include two $400 bats from the Angels Foundation, are being accepted at the high school.
Classes at Los Amigos High School begin on Thursday.
