Nic Kerdiles, a former Anaheim Ducks forward, has died at 29 after he was involved in a motorcycle crash in Nashville, Tennessee.
The news was shared by the Ducks on X, formerly known as Twitter, early Saturday.
Kerdiles played in three games for the Ducks between 2016 and 2018, becoming the first player from Orange County to play for the team.
Nashville police reported that he was killed at around 3:30 a.m. after running through a stop sign in a residential area while riding his Indian motorcycle, when he slammed into the driver's side of a BMW driving through the area.
"We're heartbroken to hear the news about Nic Kerdiles, who died in a motorcycle accident this morning," the Ducks statement said. "An Irvine native, Nic became the first player from Orange County to play for the Ducks, in 2017."
Kerdiles was selected with the 36th overall selection in the second round of the 2012 NHL Draft by the Ducks.
