NHL Cancels First 2 Weeks Of Regular Season

LOS ANGELES ( — The NHL has canceled the first two weeks of the regular season schedule, which was set to start next week, because of stalled labor negotiations.

The NHL's regular season was scheduled to begin Oct. 11, but all 82 games through Oct. 24 have been canceled. The cancellation affects a total of five games for the Los Angeles Kings, the 2012 Stanley Cup champions. It also affects six games for the Anaheim Ducks.

The league locked out its players Sept. 16 as negotiations stalled over how to split a $3.3 billion pot of revenue between owners and players.

The NHL lockout is the third major professional sport to impose a work stoppage in less than two years, behind the NFL and the NBA.
