A 19-year-old man was arrested in Riverside on Monday for allegedly running over a pregnant woman on purpose and killing her over the weekend.

Police say that the incident happened at around 11:45 on Sunday evening, when they were dispatched to the 1500 block of Gregg Place near Chicago Avenue, according to the Riverside Police Department.

Upon arrival, they learned that the suspect, since identified as 19-year-old Moreno Valley man Isaac Blackhorse Garcia, was engaged in a sexual relationship with the victim's younger sister, who is underage. When he dropped the girl off, her family members, including the victim, confronted him as he sat in the car.

"Garcia then sped away, striking the victim with his car," police said.

Paramedics rushed the woman to a nearby hospital where she later died from what police called "severe injuries." Hospital staff were able to medically deliver her baby prior to her death, according to RPD. The child remains in critical condition at the latest.

Garcia was arrested and booked on suspicion of murder, hit-and-run resulting in death and unlawful sex with a minor, police said. It's unclear when he's due in court.
