Montclair Police Seek 2 Men Accused Of Attempted Robbery While Posing As Officers

MONTCLAIR (CBSLA.com) — Detectives sought the public's help Saturday in locating two men who were accused of attempted robbery while posing as police officers.

According to the Montclair Police Department, officers were sent around 6:10 p.m. Friday to the 4500 block of Canoga Street for report of an attempted robbery.

A preliminary investigation revealed that two men approached a 46-year-old woman, and verbally identified themselves as Montclair police officers.

The suspects went on to explain to the woman that she matched a description of a suspect being sought for drug activity.

One suspect attempted to take some of her property, before he was confronted by the victim's friend who threatened to call 911.

In response, the suspects threatened to contact immigration if they had any future contact with the victim. They returned her items and fled towards the 4600 block of Canoga Alley.

Detectives described the first suspect as a Hispanic man with a goatee, between the ages of 23 to 25-years-old, that stands 5-foot-10 tall and weighs 170 pounds. He was last seen wearing a red T-shirt and blue jeans.

The second suspect was also described as a Hispanic man, between the ages of 19 and 21-years-old, who stands 5-foot-4 tall and weighs 160 pounds. He was last seen wearing a dark blue T-shirt and gray jeans.

One of the suspects had a handgun and handcuffs displayed on his waistband, and a lanyard hanging from his neck, with a gold metal shield that resembled a badge.

The victim explained to officers that both suspects spoke to her in fluent Spanish.

Anyone with information regarding this crime is urged to contact the Montclair Police Department at (909) 621-4771.
