Lifeguards Rescue Child, Still Searching For Father In Marina Del Rey

MARINA DEL REY (CBSLA) -- A father and son were swept away by a rip current in Marina del Rey on Sunday afternoon.

The 10-year-old boy was rescued and didn't require hospitalization but the search is still on for his dad.

The call for help came at 3:56 p.m. near 4200 South Ocean Front Walk.

County lifeguards, the Coast Guards and the Sheriff's Department were looking for signs of the boy's 39-year-old father throughout Sunday night.

The water search was called off at 7:30 p.m. but officials said they would continue searching the surrounding land areas throughout the night before also resuming underwater operations Monday morning.

The father and son, whose names have not been disclosed, were out on the beach with family, on the first weekend since L.A. County beaches reopened in more than a month.

Lifeguards say the water was rough on Sunday and they had been rescuing a number of people throughout the day.
