Metrolink To Institute 5 Percent Fare Increase July 1

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — Metrolink will institute a system-wide 5 percent fare increase on July 1.

The increase, adopted by the Metrolink Board, along with two additional fare policies, will help close a $10.2 million gap in funding for the 2013-2014 fiscal year, officials said.

The new fares will not affect the Weekend Pass or student fares.

However, the Weekend Pass will now be called the Weekend Day Pass. Priced at $10, it's valid for system-wide travel on either Saturday or Sunday, Metro said.

Monthly Pass holders can still ride system-wide starting Friday at 7 p.m. through Sunday at 11:59 p.m. They will see the new fares when they purchase their July passes on June 25.

The board also voted to require Personal Care Attendants to obtain a Metrolink PCA Identification Card.

The card will allow an attendant to accompany a disabled passenger during their trip.

"The first PCA application would cost $25 and every application thereafter will be $10," Metro said.

The OCLINK Pass will be discontinued.
