Menifee death investigation underway after 57-year-old man found dead inside home
A death investigation is underway in Menifee after a 57-year-old man was found deceased inside his home after not being seen for several weeks, according to police.
In a news release shared on social media, the officer said that they were called to the 21900 block of Moraga Street at around 6:45 p.m. for a residential alarm that was going off in the area.
"Officers determined that a concerned neighbor had accidentally triggered the residential alarm when he entered the residence to check on the well-being of his neighbor, whom he had not seen for several weeks," the release said.
Upon entering the home, police found 57-year-old Derrick Osbey dead inside. They said he was in an advanced state of decomposition.
"Due to the condition in which Mr. Osbey was found, a cause of death was unable to be determined," the release said. Both Menifee police and the Riverside County Coroner are investigating the circumstances surrounding the man's death.
Police said that they believe the incident is isolated and that there is no known threat to the public. Officers will continue investigating the death as they await the results of the autopsy.
