Memorial Fund Started For Groundskeeper Slain In Santa Monica Rampage

SANTA MONICA ( — A memorial fund has been established for Carlos Navarro Franco, one of the victims in Friday's Santa Monica shooting rampage.

Franco, 68, was a long-time groundskeeper at Santa Monica College.

Franco was driving his daughter to the college -- family said the decision to go was a last-minute one -- when the gunman sprayed their car with bullets. Franco was killed and his 26-year-old daughter injured. She was in critical condition after undergoing surgery at UCLA Medical Hospital.

CBS2's Art Barron reports the family on Saturday decided to make the agonizing decision to take daughter Marcella off life support as "she's mentally brain dead."

Marcella's older sister, Letty, wrote on Facebook that her heart "has been shattered into pieces." Sunday will mark the second anniversary of the family losing a brother in a car crash.
