Tanker Spill Strands Drivers On I-5 Near Castaic
CASTAIC (CBSLA) — A tanker leaking hydrogen peroxide Monday spurred the closure of all lanes of Interstate 5 near Castaic.
A Sig Alert was issued for the northbound lanes of the thoroughfare south of Templin Highway.
The California Highway Patrol indicated that all lanes were expected to be closed for an unknown duration.
Authorities say the truck was carrying a load of hydrogen peroxide estimated to range between 4,200 and 4,500 gallons. No storm drains have been affected by the spill.
Two lanes were reopened around 5 p.m. and the remaining lanes at about 6:10 p.m. after CHP canceled the SigAlert.
