Member Of Military Elite Fighting Force Arrested In Deadly Santa Monica Stabbing

SANTA MONICA (CBSLA.com) — A member of an elite fighting force in the United States military was arrested on suspicion of killing a man in Santa Monica last weekend, police announced Tuesday.

According to the Santa Monica Police Department, the victim was found stabbed shortly after 5 p.m. Saturday near the corner of Fifth Street and Santa Monica Boulevard.

Witnesses said the stabbing happened near a parking structure and a bank.

The victim suffered substantial head trauma and died the next morning at a hospital.

The suspect, identified as Theo Andrew Krah, was arrested Monday in San Diego County. He was being held on $2 million bail.

Krah is a member of the West Coast Naval Special Warfare Group 1, which is part of the Navy Seals.

Recruitment photos on Facebook show dramatic portrayals of soldiers in action. What training or role Krah had in the organization is unclear.

Santa Monica detectives said Krah first encountered the victim on the Santa Monica Pier earlier in the day.

Investigators said the two apparently did not know each other. There was some kind of argument. The two separated and somehow ended up a few blocks away at the murder scene a short time later.

Police are trying to figure out a motive for the stabbing.

Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to contact Detective Daniel Larios (310) 458-8937 or Sgt. Maury Sumlin (310) 458-8437 during normal business hours or the Santa Monica Police Department (24 hours) at (310) 458-8495.
