WEST HOLLYWOOD (CBSLA.com) — Deputies spent hours trying to track down a burglary suspect, with no success, authorities said.
The burglary was reported in the 600 block of Huntley Drive, just south of Melrose Avenue, at about 9 p.m. Tuesday, said Sgt. Dave Valentine, of the sheriff's West Hollywood Station.
A resident walking into his home when he happened upon a burglar, in his 30s, unarmed and dressed in a black business suit, deputies reported.
The homeowner tried to detain the suspected burglar and the two got into a scuffle, sheriff's Sgt. Michael R. Caprioli said.
After a brief struggle, the suspect fled on foot.
Deputies closed off streets around the house and used canine units and helicopters to search the area for the suspect.
"Unfortunately we didn't find him," Valentine said.
"The search was shut down about 12:30 a.m.," but the investigation is continuing, he said.
Authorities had no information on what the burglar may have taken.
