Man With 3 Aliases Arrested For Wearing Stolen LA County Fire Department Jacket
PALMDALE (CBS) — Authorities say they arrested a 49-year-old illegal immigrant on suspicion of receiving stolen property after sheriff's deputies saw him wearing a Los Angeles County Fire Department jacket.
Hipolito Martinez was standing on the corner of Sierra Highway and Palmdale Boulevard in Palmdale at 7:50 a.m. Wednesday when deputies spotted him in the fire jacket, sheriff's Sgt. David Moore said.
Martinez told deputies that he was not a firefighter but had found the jacket a couple of days before and believed it was possibly stolen, Moore said.
The fire department confirmed that one of its jackets had been stolen from a fire truck in the area on Monday.
Martinez was booked for receiving stolen property and was being held on $55,000 bail in connection with that offense when Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents placed a no-bail hold on him for an alleged immigration violation.
According to L.A. County jail records, the suspect uses three other aliases – Hipolito MartinezIvane and Jose Hipolito Martinez and Alvarez Hipolito Martinez.
